The wait is over. Baahubali 2 is finally here. We will finally know the answer to the question that has given us sleepless nights for the past 2 years, Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? The film also left many loose ends all to be answered with "The Conclusion". Does the film live up to the outer space expectations and give you a satisfying feeling? Let's find out in this review for India's biggest motion picture.
***This review will forgo the story section as you want to watch the film to find out what it's about. Also I will not provide any spoilers for the film in this review.
Performances: I don't have words to describe Prabhas's performance in the movie. He is that good. He dedicated his life and soul to Baahubali for 5 years and it clearly shows. He is simply world class as Amarendra Baahubali and is good as Shividu towards the tail end. His diction, mannerisms, look, just everything is incredible and Prabhas has outdoen himself with a performance that will be remembered for ages to come. Baahubali 2 is Prabhas's show from start to finish and proves why he is the true "Darling" of Indian cinema.
If you didn't mind Rana in the 1st part, you're going to hate him in Baahubali 2. Rana is an absolute animal as Bhallaladeva in the Conclusion. The way he lusts for power and the throne is simply cruelty at it's best and his performance in the crucial scene of WKKB will make you wait for his death even more. Rana got the opportunity of a lifetime and gives his career best performance as well.
Anushka sported an old and weary look in the 1st film but she steals the show as Devasena. Her performance as a strong, powerful woman is absolutely magnificent and she is first-rate. She is absolutely stunning in this film and her beauty will simply take your breath away as she does to Amarendra Baahubali in the movie. She has delivered her career best performance as well.
Ramya Krishna picks up where she left off in Baahubali 1 and delivers another sublime performance as Sivagami.
Sathyaraj was hilarious with his anctics in the 1st half and makes you cry in the 2nd half. He is a revelation once again as Kattappa. Nasser as Bijjaladeva is first-rate as well.
Subbaraju makes you laugh and he does justice to his role.
Tammanah as Avantika is the big disappointment as she hardly has any role and appears for about a good 5 minutes and utters two lines.
Direction: What can I say about SS Rajamouli? Criticize the man, say he's a copycat, say he freemakes other movies, say what you will. But one cannot deny that he is the master of the universe when it comes to story telling in movies. He once said that he's not a good director but a very good story teller and this film justifies that. I'm officially saying it, Baahubali 2 is the best film ever made in the last 10 years, and maybe the greatest war film India will ever produce. Baahubali 2 does not disappoint at all and meets your sky high expectations. Rajamouli weaves his magic right from the first frame and the film will provide you with unlimited goosebumps from start to finish. His direction and the way the narrative moves is simply world class. Baahubali 2 proves that a man's vision is beyond star power and it's the content and the way you tell the story that makes the difference in the end. SS Rajamouli take a bow, and hats off. You have made every Indian proud with this film.
Technicalities: Baahubali 2 technical wise, is the best film ever produced in India. Cinematography by Senthil Kumar, Art by Sabu Cyril, Music and BGM by MM Keeravani, Action sequences by King Solomon and Lee Whitaker, Costumes by Rama Rajamouli and Prashanthi Tiripineni, Production care by MM Srivalli, 2nd unit direction by SS Karthikeya and Sound Mixing by Sri Kalyan Ramanna are all world class. Special mention needs to made to the producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni. These two guys took the biggest risk of their lives and trusted Rajamouli's vision and passion and the result is the film you are about to witness. It's safe to say Baahubali 2 has given more confidence for producers in the future to attempt movies like this, but only if the captain of the ship is the right person at the helm.
Verdict: I really don't have words to describe what I just saw. Baahubali 2 can't be described with words. It's an experience. If you were disappointed with the 1st part, Baahubali 2 The Conclusion makes up for all the flaws and disappointing feelings you experienced after the first part.
Just go and watch it. You will experience story telling at it's best. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will have unlimited goosebumps from start to finish. Baahubali 2 is arguably one of the best Telugu movies ever made.
It is a classic and one that should not be missed. The performances, direction, VFX, and gripping narrative are what makes it so much better than Baahubali the Beginning.
GO AND WATCH IT. JAI RAJAMOULI AND JAI MAHISHMATHI.
